Oxford County's municipalities and partner agencies are working together to improve safety on Oxford County roads. This work will be carried out in two parts:
first, developing a Road Safety Framework to lay the groundwork for future planning; then,
developing the Road Safety Strategy consisting of detailed countermeasures and guidance to address specific areas of road safety concern.
To support this work, we are asking community members to share their experiences and interests to help us better understand road safety concerns. You can share your thoughts by taking a short online survey open now until September 8, 2026. The survey takes only 3-5 minutes to complete.
Your thoughts and comments will help set priorities and direction for this project. Thank you for taking part!
What is a Road Safety Framework?
A Road Safety Framework is a foundational document that lays the groundwork– including mission, vision and goals, as well as actions and commitment– to support the development of a more detailed road safety strategy.
Work on Oxford County's Road Safety Framework began in May 2026 and will continue to December 2026. It is being guided by an Ad Hoc Committee in partnership with local area municipalities and community partners and agencies, including police, paramedic services, and public health.
The goal of the Road Safety Framework is to increase road user safety and reduce and eliminate fatalities on the road. It will do this by:
Building on a number of key inputs specific to Oxford County, including collision data, community perceptions and collaboration potential between the County and area municipalities.
Drawing on the philosophy of Vision Zero, the goal that road fatalities and serious injuries can and should be eliminated while providing safe, healthy and equitable mobility for all road users.
Incorporating road safety measures involving the "5 Es": Engineering, Education, Enforcement, Engagement and Evaluation.
Drawing on a growing body of knowledge in road safety.
Incorporating experience from road safety practitioners with backgrounds in engineering, public health, policing and communications.
Mapping out the objectives of the subsequent strategies, and setting a governance structure to evaluate and update the strategies as they evolve.
