Woodstock Wastewater Treatment Plant Biogas Utilization Project

Oxford County is undertaking a biogas utilization upgrade at the Woodstock Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Woodstock as part of the County’s 100% Renewable Energy Plan.

This project will install a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system to generate heat and electricity from biogas produced at the wastewater treatment plan, decreasing the facility's dependence on the energy grid.

Approval for this project is required by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. As part of this process, Oxford County is consulting with members of the public, Indigenous communities and agencies.

WATCH THE PUBLIC MEETING RECORDING

A drop-in public meeting was held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 to share information and answer questions.

About the project

This project is classified as an Anaerobic Digestion Facility Class 3. If approved, this facility would have a total maximum name plate capacity of 250 kW, offsetting 40% of the grid electricity used at the treatment plant and 39% of its required heat energy. The project would reduce the annual greenhouse gas emission for heat and electricity at the WWTP by 58%.

The project location is the Woodstock Wastewater Treatment Plant, 195 Admiral Street in Woodstock.

A Draft Project Description Report (PDR) with more project details, including an enlarged map, is available online for review by the public. You may also request a print copy from the project contacts.
