Contract award for construction at Punkeydoodles Corners
June 26, 2024
On June 26, 2024, Oxford County Council approved a $1.08 million construction contract for intersection improvements at Punkeydoodles Corners, fulfilling the recommendations of the Intersection Control Feasibility Study released in October 2023. The study addressed community concerns about Punkeydoodles Corners, a section of roadway bordering Oxford County, Perth County, Wilmot Township and Region of Waterloo.
The scope of work for this project, which is planned for July to November of this year, includes a number of safety measures, including:
- closing the west leg of Punkeydoodles Avenue at Perth Road 101 and adding stop control to east leg;
- removing stop control on Oxford Road northbound/southbound;
- closing the north leg of Huron Road at the intersection of Huron Road/Perth Road 101;
- adding a new southbound left turn lane, northbound right turn lane, and deceleration lanes along the curve on Perth Road 101;
- realigning Road 101A at Perth Road 101 to meet geometrical design guidelines and improve sightlines; and,
- adding lighting at the intersection of Road 101A and Perth Road 101.

About the intersection improvements
Oxford County, working with Perth County, Township of Wilmot and the Region of Waterloo, undertook an Intersection Control Feasibility Study for Punkeydoodles Corners in 2023. The study examined:
- short, mid and long-term geometric and traffic control improvements at the intersection;
- traffic operations or safety metrics, such as traffic volumes, levels of service, delay, queuing, collisions, speeds, sight lines, and illumination; and,
- land acquisition needs to accommodate the recommended long-term improvements.
Oxford County has committed to monitoring how these changes impact traffic behaviour and road safety. This information will be used to consider other potential future improvements to the intersection in partnership with Perth County, Wilmot Township and Region of Waterloo.

Community consultation
Consultation with residents, the general public, stakeholders, and agency partners were a key component of the Punkeydoodles Corners Intersection Control Feasibility Study. An in-person Public Information Centre took place on October 5, 2023, to gather public input, present findings to date, and share recommendations for the intersection. It was attended by more than 150 residents and included senior municipal representatives.
