How are you doing, really?


Oxford County and Safe and Well Oxford are sponsoring the Canadian Index of Wellbeing survey to help support the highest possible quality of life for Oxford County residents.

The survey is open to every Oxford County resident aged 16 years or older. By taking part, you’ll have a chance to win one of 10 gift certificates to a local business valued at $100 each. The survey closes June 15, 2025.

About the survey

Oxford County's Canadian Index of Wellbeing survey will be used to help identify the priority areas in the next Community Safety and Well-Being Plan and to to measure progress on Oxford County’s Strategic Plan. More broadly, the Canadian Index of Wellbeing helps policymakers (e.g., governments) make decisions for everyday Canadians.

The survey gathers information on the eight domains that the Canadian Index of Wellbeing has identified as critical to overall wellbeing: community vitality, healthy populations, democratic engagement, the environment, leisure and culture, education, living standards, and time use. The questionnaire takes about 30 minutes to complete, and will offer a comprehensive look at all aspects of wellbeing for residents living in Oxford County.

The results from Oxford's Canadian Index of Wellbeing survey will be shared in the fall of 2025.

The Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) survey is a national index, calculated by the University of Waterloo, that measures the overall wellbeing of a community. Oxford County is undertaking the Canadian Index of Wellbeing survey for the second time since 2016.

The survey measures living standards, health, environmental sustainability, community vitality, education, work-life balance, democratic participation, and access and participation in leisure and cultural activities.

    I understand by participating in the Canadian Index of Wellbeing survey in Oxford County, my questionnaire responses are being collected by the Canadian Index of Wellbeing on behalf of Oxford County and Safe and Well Oxford for the purposes of striving to improve the quality of life for all Oxford County residents.

    I give permission to the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) to use my responses for the purpose of compiling a summary report based on the overall survey results and share the summary report with Oxford County, Safe and Well Oxford, and their partners.

    Your participation is entirely voluntary and your identity and individual responses will be completely anonymous. There are no known or anticipated risks with your participation in the survey. You are not asked for your name or address at any point during the survey. You may skip questions that you do not wish to answer, but we believe that you will see how important all the information is to understand your perspectives on wellbeing in Oxford County. Only one adult member of your household, 16 years of age or older, should complete the survey.

    All the findings will be reported at a level of geography that will not identify individuals (e.g., for the entire County or for individual municipalities). The data gathered will be presented in a report that will summarize the findings of the survey and will be made available to the public through the Oxford County and Safe and Well Oxford websites.

    Given the information provided above:

    • By agreeing to participate, you are not waiving your legal rights or releasing the investigator(s) or involved institution(s) from their legal and professional responsibilities.
    • By filling out and submitting the survey, you hereby give permission for the use, collect, and disposal of your information for the following uses: (1) to help improve the quality of life of Oxford County residents, (2) to develop a report that reflects the needs of residents geographically and to address the gaps, and (3) to be used by the Canadian Index of Wellbeing at the University of Waterloo for research on community wellbeing and future research topics.
