Tillsonburg Long-Term Water Supply Strategy

At the May 25, 2026, meeting of Tillsonburg Town Council, Oxford County staff presented on the long-term outlook for Tillsonburg’s water supply.

Please note that Tillsonburg is able to meet the daily water use needs of its residents and businesses up to the year 2045.

Water supply for Tillsonburg may even extend beyond that. However, action must be taken now to ensure the Town can meet the municipal water needs of future growth and development, which will bring new homes, businesses and services to the community.

Oxford County, the Town of Tillsonburg, and the Township of Norwich (Oxford South Water System) are working together to ensure that the Town’s water capacity—the municipal water available for day-to-day use—can meet future water needs beyond what development has already been approved but not yet built.

This work will be guided by the development of a Long-Term Water Supply Strategy, supported by CIMA+ as a project consultant, that will bring forward a full assessment and recommendations in spring 2027.

Key facts about Tillsonburg’s water system

  • Tillsonburg has five (5) water treatment facilities securing water from 10 production wells.
  • The Town’s current water supply capacity is 10,066 m3/day. With planned enhancements over the next four years, supply will increase to about 13,262 m3/day.
  • Major capital water projects identified for Town of Tillsonburg over the next 10 years include upgrades to Wells 3 and 7A; replacement of Wells 1A, 2, 6A and 11; water storage expansion; watermain extensions and upsizing; and enhancements to source water protection.
