Tillsonburg WWTP: Odour Control Project

August 2025 - Fall 2026

Oxford County is proceeding with installing new odour abatement equipment at the Tillsonburg Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) to help reduce unpleasant odours on site and in the surrounding area.

In 2025, the County retained Ruks Engineering Ltd., an environmental engineering consultant specializing in odour and bacterial control solutions, to evaluate treatment options. Following this review, ozone generation technology was identified as the preferred solution for minimizing the potential for odours to leave the WWTP site.

AECOM, the design consultant, is completing the mechanical and electrical design work, drawings, and amendments to the facility’s Air and Noise Environmental Compliance Approval with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks.

Jackson Electric Inc. is completing the mechanical and electrical installation work for the new odour abatement system. Final design is currently underway, with construction expected to begin in late June 2026.

Tillsonburg residents can be assured there are no safety or performance issues at the wastewater treatment plant, and that it is operating reliably and meeting all requirements set by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks.
