Climate story

My climate story relates to my employment in Oxford.

Well I am still relatively young, I have still seen a change in the climate. I have spent the last few summer employed at a summer camp located in the county of Oxford (2022-2026). An important aspect of the summer camp is taking the campers outside to get some exercise. Over the years the summer heat has got increasingly hotter... and hotter. And this past summer especially in the month of July their was numerous days where we were unable to take the campers outside due to the significant hot heat, and its impact on the children. With this be said 4 years ago (when I first started), there was never issue where it was "too hot" to go outside. This summer (2026) we were also hit with heavy smoke in the month of July from northern Ontario wild fires. This was well impacted our ability's to go outside and experience nature.

This leaves me extremely worried about what is even more to come with the increasing temperatures. An important aspect of summer camp life, is going outside and experiencing nature. Scientific research has pointed to how climate change has and will continue to impact this. This leaves the question of will we be able to go outside at all? Will children's experiences and others be the same? Many questions are left unknown. The significant need to combat climate change through mitigation and adaptation is extremely prevalent. The youth deserve to be able to experience nature without having to worry about health risks.
